World
Hope International (WHI) has established a unique partnership
to continue drawing attention to suffering around the world.
Author Heather Gemmen Wilson traveled with WHI to Sierra
Leone and Liberia to experience firsthand the effects of
poverty and civil war on some of the world’s neediest
people. Wilson’s experience in Africa inspired her
newly-released novel for “tweens,"
Lydia Barnes and the Blood Diamond Treasure.
Set in Liberia, this adventure follows the 14-year-old daughter
of a missionary as she makes friends, learns about Western
Africa, and works to help her new friends and neighbors
fight back against violence and AIDS.
With a foreword by WHI Founder
and CEO Jo Anne Lyon, Wilson’s unique setting
reveals a world of need and suffering to young readers.
Lydia’s journeys also offer hope for healing
for the victims of Africa’s diamond trade
as she hunts for hidden diamond treasure that she hopes
will fund improved health care for AIDS patients in those
countries.
The Global Warning Series is written for
readers 8 to 12 years old and can be used by adults to educate
young people about the realities many Africans face.
