WHI Recognizes World AIDS Day
On December 1, World Hope International (WHI) participated
in events around the world recognizing World AIDS Day (WAD).
WHI, along with its partners and field staff, work around
the world fighting the spread of HIV and caring for those
affected by the disease. WAD represents an important annual
event for highlighting this work and the work of other organizations
dedicated to fighting the disease.
This year in Malawi, a radio program aired throughout the
country recognizing the Reach4Life
program. Students who have and will participate in the Reach4Life
program were reached through this educational program effort.
In South Africa
during the week leading up to December 1, WHI Community
Orphan Trust members joined with Kings Hope Development
Center Home Based Care in their door-to-door campaign to
assess the needs of the community. In Brakpan, Johnnesburg,
a group sang, recited poetry and performed dramas telling
the stories of those affected by the disease. WHI-South
Africa also provided informational presentations to pastors,
churches, youth and key community members who attended the
event.
In Haiti, WHI-Haiti
participated in four different events in Port au Prince
to raise awareness through songs, drama and presentations.
More than 3,000 youth were anticipated to attend.
In Zambia, WHI-Zambia
joined in a city-wide march in Choma to raise awareness
of HIV/AIDS. The day also included a rally with skits, music
and speaking to educate and promote awareness of the disease.
