Country Profile
Honduras, a mountainous land with rain forest and
fertile coastal plains, is still recovering from the devastating
Hurricane Mitch. World Hope's activities have increased since Hurricane
Mitch hit Honduras in October 1998. Immediate emergency relief was
sent in cooperation with Dole Fruits. In addition, over 300 homes,
267 latrines, a bridge connecting remote village to the city and
a church were all built to help the community recover.Currently
exploring agricultural development, a vocational school and a children's
center in the La Ceila area.
Part
of Spain's vast empire in the New World, Honduras became an independent
nation in 1821. After two and one-half decades of mostly military
rule, a freely elected civilian government came to power in 1982.
During the 1980s, Honduras proved a haven for anti-Sandinista contras
fighting the Marxist Nicaraguan Government and an ally to Salvadoran
Government forces fighting against leftist guerrillas. The country
was devastated by Hurricane Mitch in 1998, which killed about 5,600
people and caused approximately $2 billion in damage.
Vision Casting in Honduras
I
want this school to be an outreach to the poorest children. We are
only having fifteen children in every class the first year, to make
sure things work smoothly. But I always want one third of the students
in the classes to be on full scholarship.
We are going to be one of if the not the cheapest
bilingual school in Honduras. We are emphasizing that this is not
a business. The church is not making any money any extra money goes
towards scholarships. The children come first.

working with a church called Amor Viviente Living Hope
to start a Christian bilingual school in Honduras.
