Responding to Tragedy in Myanmar
Dear Friends,
Today we are seeing the devastation to land, buildings and especially the people of Myanmar (Burma) following the violence of Cyclone Nagris.
Despite official US government sanctions against Burma, I had the privilege to visit there six years ago to see our work in partnership with the Wesleyan Church. It is very difficult to work in Burma as the military junta oppresses its people badly and resents the presence of organizations like World Hope International in its country.
Our work has been small in Yangoon and has included some water systems and small economic development projects. More has been done in the northwest part of the country with the Chin people. We have assisted with a small hospital there and provided x-ray equipment and other necessary items for local healthcare. In addition, we have also funded wells for the Chin people.
At this point we are assessing the situation in the aftermath of the cyclone. We are listening to our partners in Burma to determine a response that will be helpful and effective. I will keep you posted as we move to assist with the recovery from this tragedy.

Blessings,
.
