Friends - Reach4Life
This summer,
hundreds of teens from around the country learned about
the everyday life of a young person in Sub-Saharan Africa
and what it’s like to grow up around HIV/AIDS.
These teens attended youth camps where they met with World
Hope International (WHI) representatives and with Amos Nyambo
(Malawi) and Vusi Mahlangu (South Africa) who came to the
United States for the first time especially for these camps.
In
addition to learning about the horrors of HIV/AIDS, they
heard about Reach4Life,
a 40 week HIV/AIDS prevention program that uses specially
trained teachers and the International Bible Society’s
Reach4Life New Testament to change the hearts, minds and
behavior of youth in Sub-Saharan Africa. These education
efforts aim to equip summer campers with the knowledge and
resources to work to stop the spread of HIV and help their
African peers. Together, WHI and these campers plan
to reach 100,000 African youth with Reach4Life in the next
two years.
At each of the 10 youth camps, WHI worked
with middle and high school students to raise awareness
about the global HIV/AIDS crisis and the importance of prevention
through abstinence and, moreover, through sexual purity.
This summer, 2000 youth embraced this message, and learned
about Reach4Life,
a unique curriculum that uses the New Testament as a textbook
paired with a special HIV/AIDS prevention program developed
by the International Bible Society (IBS) to teach African
youth about purity and God’s good plan for their lives.
The Reach4Life
program targets young people ages 15-24 who are at the greatest
risk of contracting HIV. The curriculum is implemented in
the public schools of South Africa, Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique.
WHI is working with camps in the United States to get youth
here involved by sponsoring their African peers in Reach4Life.
There are many opportunities for youth
in the US to get involved in Reach4Life. Providing
the Reach4Life experience for one African teen
is only $10. Providing the Reach4Life experience for twenty-five
African teens is only $250—the price of an IPOD.
If you’re
interested in having a Reach4Life representative
come to your camp next summer, please contact World Hope
International at 888-466-4673.
