HOW SPONSORSHIP WORKS |
 |
What is a Hope for Children Sponsor? |
| |
A sponsor is someone in the
United States who chooses to establish a relationship
with a needy child, assist the child financially,
which enables the child to go to school, and have
some other basic needs met.
You can get involved in a number of different
ways:
SPONSOR
A CHILD - recurring monthly donation of $30/Mo.
SPONSOR
A CHILD - yearly donation of $360/Yr.
GAP
FUND - one time donation of $30.

 |
How is my sponsorship helping the
child? |
| |
The primary
focus of the Hope for Children program is to assist
children in getting a quality education, helping them
to grow spiritually, intellectually, emotionally and
socially. The major portion of your assistance goes
toward your child's education and related expenses,
i.e. school uniform, books, etc. Additional funds
assist with nutritional and medical needs. |
| |
|
 |
How long should I continue to sponsor? |
| |
We hope your
commitment to sponsor your child will be for at least
a year, and if possible, until the child finishes
high school. However, you may discontinue your sponsorship
at any time by contacting the Hope for Children office. |
| |
|
 |
Does anyone else sponsor my child? |
| |
No. Each child is assigned
to only one individual, family or group to sponsor.
You are your child's only sponsor, and your assistance
is used for your child's benefit only. Should your
child be dropped from the program for any reason,
you will be notified and assigned a different child,
if you wish. |
| |
|
 |
How do I know my child actually benefits
from my funds? |
| |
Programs are closely monitored
for compliance with the program guidelines both on
the field and by our Hope for Children director. Periodic
onsite visits are made by World Hope staff.
You will receive an annual update including a report
of how your child is doing in school. Your child will
also write to you at least once a year. Other
information about the Hope for Children program activities
is included in the World
Hope Live! quarterly
newsletter and in a quarterly eletter from
the HFC director.
You will be notified of
changes affecting your child, i.e. serious illness,
change of location, particular difficulties in the
family or school setting. |

| |
|
 |
How much does it cost to sponsor
a child? |
| |
The cost is $30 per month. You may think
of it as $7.50 a week or $1 a day. |
| |
|
 |
Are my sponsorship payments tax-deductible? |
| |
Yes. All sponsorship gifts are tax-deductible
and receipts are mailed. |
| |
|
 |
Will I receive a "bill"
each month? |
| |
No.
Each time you make a donation, you will receive a
receipt with a remittance form attached at
the bottom and an addressed envelope to use in mailing
your next donation. This receipt/remittance form serves
as your only reminder. If you pay annually ($360)
or semi-annually ($180), you will receive a renewal
letter about a month before your next donation is
due. You will have the opportunity to send a donation
to continue your sponsorship or notify us that you
wish to end your sponsorship. |
| |
|
 |
What proportion of the support money
reaches my child? |
| |
Eighty percent
of the funds you send are spent on direct
services
to the child. The remainder is spent on administrative
costs of the program. |
| |
|
| COMMUNICATION
WITH YOUR CHILD
|
 |
May I send packages? |
| |
No. Unfortunately
high import fees and various restrictions
by some governments
prevent us from forwarding packages. |
| |
|
 |
How can I correspond with my child? |
| |
All correspondence between
you and your child must flow through the Hope for
Children office. This is for your protection as well
as the child's.
Please send your letters
or cards to:
Hope for
Children
625 Slaters Lane, Suite 200
Alexandria, VA 22314
(Include your child's name and
ID number on the envelope.)

 |
What should I write about? |
| |
Your
child is interested in your family and would enjoy
a photo of you. He/she would like to know what
your part of the country is like, what interests you
have, or work you do. Letting your child know you
are praying for him/her is meaningful. Sharing a verse
of scripture and how it relates to you is appropriate.
The children also enjoy colorful greeting cards or
postcards. There are many material things in our culture
that your child would have difficulty relating to
or understanding, but relationships are important
in developing countries, so helping your child know
something about you personally will enhance
your relationship. Keep letters simple and at the
age level of your child. Be sensitive to your child's
lack of material possessions and the country's political
situation. |
| |
|
 |
Will my child write back to me? |
| |
Yes. But
correspondence is sometimes slow and postal service
uncertain in places. It may take considerable time
to hear back from your child. Your child is required
to write to you at least once a year. If the child
is too young to write a letter, he/she may draw a
picture or have someone assist in writing to you. |
| |
|
 |
How can I do something special for
my child? |
| |
You may send
an extra monetary gift for your child’s birthday
or Christmas. Project coordinators who know the children
and their needs and interests will purchase an appropriate
gift on your behalf and present it to your child.
Simply add the funds to your check to Hope for Children
and indicate the amount that is an additional gift
on the remittance form. You need to plan about two
months in advance for funds to reach your child by
a certain date. |
| |
|
 |
What if I have concerns about my child? |
| |
We will do our best to address your concerns with
our field staff and report any responses from them
to you. We are in continual contact with our Hope
for Children field staff by email and telephone as
well as occasional visits to the field. In some countries,
children are scattered over a wide area or living
in a remote place without ready access to email. Thus
it may take some time to obtain answers to your concerns.
