Communities
United was formed by a group of people in Eaton, OH
wanting to make a difference in the Sierra Leone, Africa
people's lives living in extreme poverty. While one
community can
raise their standard of living, the
other will
become more aware of global issues
and how others deal with them. By sharing
resources and learning about another countries & cultures
lives are changed.
In
November, 2005, nine people from Eaton, OH went
to five villages in northern Sierra Leone, Africa.
The purpose of the trip was to determine the needs in the
villages and then how to best address those needs. The needs
assessment included household surveys and focus groups with
the village leaders. Saidu Kanu, World Hope International's
Country Director, and his staff member, Daniel Turay, guided
the group through the needs assessment process and the different
interventions needed in the village.
"The
worst sin toward our fellow creatures is not to hate them,
but to be indifferent to them; that's the essence of inhumanity."
George Bernard Shaw
