70%
of the world’s extreme poor live in rural communities,
yet only 8% of development resources go to the rural areas.
World Hope is working in rural communities
to empower local people to address their own needs. This
often involves agriculture projects, animal multiplication
programs, latrines, small-scale irrigation and wells.
Wells
There are 1.1
billion people worldwide who do not have access to clean
drinking water...causing 25,000 people to die daily.
Access to clean drinking water is a major problem in many
of the villages where we actively work. Placing a well within
a community eliminates the long distances that people --
women in particular -- need to travel for clean water for
drinking, cooking and bathing.
World
Hope is dedicated to meetting these water needs by drilling
wells. Currently, World Hope is drilling in Cambodia, Liberia,
Mozambique, Sierra Leone and Zambia. Available water supply
also supports food production and prevents hunger, malnutrition
and starvation. |
