Anne Lyon Appointed to Anti-Trafficking Commission

Hope International (WHI) Founder and CEO Dr. Jo Anne Lyon
has been appointed to the Commission on the Prevention of
Human Trafficking in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Dr. Lyon
was recommended to the commission by Congressman Frank Wolf
(R – VA – 10th District) and the Trafficking
in Persons office of the US Department of State in recognition
of her extensive experience fighting human trafficking around
the world.
The commission is one of the first
of its kind at the state level in the United States.
The General Assembly of Virginia established the commission
to provide leadership and coordination within the state
for organizations fighting human trafficking. The commission
will produce and implement a legislative
plan to guide the statewide initiative against trafficking.
Dr. Lyon’s appointment expires in June 2009.
WHI began working to end human trafficking in 1996. Today,
the organization actively fights trafficking in South Africa,
Liberia, Sierra Leone, Cambodia and Hong Kong.
