FAAST
partners with Today’s Christian Woman
World
Hope International (WHI) and the Faith
Alliance Against Slavery and Trafficking (FAAST)
received a boost in their efforts to fight human trafficking
around the globe when Today’s Christian Woman
magazine chose FAAST as its partner in its first-ever
Cause of the Year: Combat Sex Trafficking. In each of the
magazine’s bimonthly publications throughout 2008,
TCW will feature stories about sex trafficking, FAAST and
its work, and suggestions for how individuals can help combat
trafficking worldwide. TCW is also promoting FAAST “Rapid
Response Kits” to provide survivors with immediate
needs, such as clothes, food, medicines, and transportation
to safety.
This partnership will bring new attention
to the work of FAAST and of WHI. FAAST partners currently
implement anti-trafficking programs in Cambodia, Liberia,
Sierra Leone, South Africa and Sri Lanka to help identify
and care for survivors of the sex trade, forced labor, and
domestic servitude. By alerting Today’s Christian
Woman readers to the realities of slavery and trafficking,
FAAST hopes to increase awareness of this serious issue
and raise support for its aftercare programs.
“We’re excited and grateful
that TCW is educating its readership on sex trafficking
in 2008, and that it chose to partner with FAAST on this
important issue,” said Kristin Wiebe, WHI Director
of Anti-Trafficking. “If Christians rally and work
together, we have the reachable potential to stop sex slavery
and trafficking throughout the world.”
