Saidu Kanu, a native of Sierra Leone, boasts over two decades of experience as a rural development strategist dedicated to addressing critical needs of underserved communities. During his 24-year tenure with World Hope International (WHI), including 19 as country director, Kanu has spearheaded programs and strategies within Sierra Leone. He has overseen efforts to provide clean water, protect women and children from human trafficking and exploitation, support rural farmers, improve the health of women and children and boost access to education through early childhood development and child sponsorship.

Currently, Kanu serves as global ambassador and advisor for WHI in the United States, where he focuses on fundraising for and global awareness of WHI’s clean water initiative. Before his work with World Hope, Kanu held leadership roles within the Wesleyan Church of Sierra Leone. He is an active member of the Rotary Club of Freetown, where he served as president and director of projects. He is a Rotary Foundation technical cadre and is involved in Rotary International humanitarian projects in Sierra Leone. In addition, Kanu is a disaster response and management specialist who trains church leaders on the topic. Kanu studied at Fourah Bay College of the University of Sierra Leone, Mindolo Ecumenical Foundation in Kitwe, Zambia, and Africa University in Mutare, Zimbabwe.
